Emergency medical service

The Länsi-Uusimaa Department for Rescue Services provides prehospital care based on the joint action agreement with the health care district. The availability, quality and content are specified in the service´s level decision.

The emergency medical service system is built up so that as many emergency patients as possible are reached in sufficient time. According to the patient’s condition, high quality prehospital care will be given as required and the potential urgent transport to the appropriate clinic is taken care of. Emergency patients are to be reached as soon as possible so that the patients’ survival chances and follow up are the highest possible. However the majority of patients are other than emergency patients.

The Länsi-Uusimaa Department for Rescue Services has several emergency medical service units and a field management unit on immediate standby. The paramedic service package includes first response, basic level of care and a field director of operations. Co-operation is done with the neighboring regions’ rescue departments, contract fire stations, regional hospitals, FinnHEMS helicopter emergency medical services, basic health and social care and the police.

The quality of services and executed treatments are controlled by expert reviews, statistical systems and customer feedback and also by conducting research. The rescue department has in its use the first aid electronic patient information system. The information system enables patient information to be received in the field and allows information from the field to be forwarded to the hospital.

First response operation

The Länsi-Uusimaa rescue department takes care of first response operations in Espoo, Kauniainen, Kirkkonummi, Lohja, Vihti, Karkkila, Raasepori, Hanko, Inkoo and Siuntio.
