The rescue department´s situation center (control room) supports the Länsi-Uusimaa´s rescue operations, accidents prevention operations, emergency medical care and operations taking place in municipalities located within the rescue departments region.

The situation center keeps track on the rescue departments preparedness and changes occurring in the rescue services operating environment. On those bases the rescue department prepares up-front for any potential threatening situation. The situation center also acts as part of the disaster management centre and assists the rescue operations of an accident on a daily basis.

Service point and helpdesk for daily operations

The situation center acts as the Länsi-Uusimaa rescue department´s switch, every incoming call to the switch is directed straight to the situation center. The situation center maintains the systems and files needed by dispatchers and the rescue department and allows the rescue department to perform tasks with updated and effective contacts.

As the situation center gives around the clock service it has the possibility to assist municipalities in the region. For example in different accident situations the center forwards preparedness and accident alerts to a person in charge in various municipalities and rescue departments. In addition the situation center receives alarms from Espoo city´s properties and directs them to the service personnel.

Rescue department´s communication center

The central fire station is equipped with radiation monitoring equipment and a weather station. Their values are monitored by the situation center and authorities receive information automatically on a daily basis. The Länsi-Uusimaa´s public warning sirens are operated by the situation center. In addition to the alarm sounds it is possible to read clear instructions through the alarms, it can be performed on every siren simultaneously or specific ones accordingly.

In an accident situation the Centre´s role in information dissemination, especially in early-stage telephone service is significant. The situation center also forwards accident releases from the rescue department.
